Barcelona have reached a verbal agreement with Fenerbahçe for the signing of goalkeeper Dominik Livaković, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Croatia international is set to join Barça in a deal worth an initial €2 million, with a further €2 million available in add-ons.
However, Barcelona's plan is not for Livaković to immediately become part of Hansi Flick's first-team squad.
Instead, the club intends to sign the goalkeeper with the future in mind, with Livaković expected to become the team's backup goalkeeper from June 2027, when Wojciech Szczęsny is scheduled to leave.
Livaković Expected to Leave on Loan
Barcelona are also planning to send Livaković out on loan for the 2026/27 season.
That arrangement would allow the experienced goalkeeper to continue playing regularly before returning to Barcelona when the club expects to need a new second-choice goalkeeper.
Reports from Spain have similarly indicated that Barça are looking at Livaković as a long-term solution for the position rather than an immediate replacement for their current goalkeeping options.
The Croatian goalkeeper is currently contracted to Fenerbahçe and has previously spent time on loan at Dinamo Zagreb.
Barcelona Planning Ahead
The move highlights Barcelona's approach to planning for future squad needs.
Rather than waiting until Szczęsny's departure in 2027 to find another experienced backup, the club is looking to secure Livaković now and give him a season away on loan before bringing him into the squad.
For Livaković, the arrangement would provide another opportunity to maintain regular first-team football while his future at Barcelona is already being mapped out.
The agreement is not yet the same as a completed transfer, but with a verbal deal reportedly in place, Barcelona are now moving closer to securing their future No. 2 goalkeeper.
