Kylian Mbappé has spoken openly about José Mourinho, his relationship with Vinícius Júnior, Paris Saint-Germain's Champions League success, and his ambitions to win the 2026 Ballon d’Or.
The Real Madrid forward addressed several topics during interviews with L'Équipe and Sky, while making it clear that his main focus remains helping Madrid win trophies.
Mbappé Praises Mourinho's Winning Mentality
Mbappé had strong words of praise for José Mourinho, who is back in charge of Real Madrid.
The Frenchman believes Mourinho's ability to win and motivate people makes him an important figure around the club.
“He's a guy who knows how to win and inspire those around him.”
Mbappé added:
“Mourinho motivates the whole club and his team. And wins matches.”
The comments highlight the respect Mbappé has for the Portuguese manager's experience and winning mentality.
Mbappé Dismisses Vinícius Compatibility Concerns
Mbappé was also asked about suggestions that he and Vinícius Júnior are not compatible at Real Madrid.
The French forward refused to give much importance to the criticism.
“That's just one opinion among millions about Real Madrid, the biggest club in the world. I can't control everything that's said.”
Instead, Mbappé pointed towards the common objective shared by both players.
“We have the same goal, which is to win titles.”
The pair remain two of the most important attacking players in Madrid's squad, with their ability to work together likely to be crucial to the club's ambitions this season.
Mbappé Unbothered by PSG Champions League Claims
Mbappé was also asked about suggestions that PSG won the Champions League because he left the club.
His response was brief.
“I do not care.”
The Real Madrid forward believes such headlines attract attention because his name continues to generate significant interest.
“These headlines sell, and speaking about me sells very well…”
Mbappé spent seven seasons at PSG before joining Real Madrid, but he appears uninterested in becoming involved in debates surrounding the French club's European success after his departure.
Mbappé Confident About Ballon d’Or Chances
The Ballon d’Or was another major topic during the interviews.
Mbappé believes his achievements this summer have strengthened his case, although he recognises that the final decision belongs to the journalists who vote for the award.
“I made history this summer in the most prestigious competition, but there’s still a long way to go.”
He added:
“This might be a good year for the Ballon d’Or, but the journalists vote, and they will decide. I only focus on doing my best.”
Asked who he would vote for, however, Mbappé gave a very confident answer.
“Who’d I vote for the Ballon d’Or? I’d vote for ME.”
The Frenchman explained that the award is an individual prize and believes his own individual achievements give him a strong argument.
“When we look at the arguments... I look, and I say to myself that yeah… it wouldn't be stolen.”
'Making History Should Always Be Rewarded'
Mbappé further strengthened his Ballon d'Or argument by pointing to his scoring record in major competitions.
He believes being the leading scorer across the biggest competitions, including the Champions League and World Cup, is something that deserves recognition.
“I believe that making history should always be rewarded.”
The Madrid forward also questioned whether any player had previously finished as the top scorer in all of those major competitions.
For Mbappé, the argument is therefore not simply about trophies but also about his individual production on the biggest stages.
Mbappé Still Has Affection for AC Milan
Looking ahead to European competition, Mbappé was asked about facing Inter Milan.
The Frenchman revealed that he has a childhood preference for Inter's city rivals, AC Milan.
“I liked AC Milan when I was a kid. I prefer AC Milan!”
However, Mbappé was quick to acknowledge Inter's quality.
“But Inter deserve respect too.”
With Real Madrid facing another demanding European campaign, Mbappé will once again be expected to lead the attack as the club targets major honours.
From Mourinho's arrival to his partnership with Vinícius and his Ballon d'Or ambitions, Mbappé's message is consistent... he wants to win, perform at the highest level and leave his mark on Real Madrid history.
