João Cancelo is set to return to Barcelona after reaching an agreement to terminate his contract with Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal.
Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported that the deal is now at the “Here We Go” stage, with Cancelo authorised to travel to Barcelona early next week.
The Portugal international had already agreed personal terms with Barcelona in June and is now ready to complete the final formalities and sign for the Catalan club.
Recent reports also confirm that Cancelo is expected to join Barça as a free agent following the contract termination with Al Hilal.
Cancelo Gets His Barcelona Return
The move will mark Cancelo's third spell with Barcelona after two previous loan periods.
The 32 year old first joined Barça on loan from Manchester City and later returned for another loan spell from Al Hilal.
His desire to remain in Catalonia has been clear throughout the negotiations, with the defender repeatedly showing his preference for Barcelona.
Barcelona had initially faced financial difficulties in trying to reach an agreement with Al Hilal, with reports previously suggesting the Saudi club wanted a transfer fee for the defender.
The agreement to terminate Cancelo's contract removes that obstacle and allows Barcelona to bring him back without paying a conventional transfer fee.
Barcelona Move Into Final Stage
Cancelo's return now depends on completing the remaining formalities after he arrives in Spain.
The Portuguese full-back is expected to travel early next week before completing his medical and signing his Barcelona contract.
His versatility will also give Barcelona another experienced option at full-back, with Cancelo capable of playing on either side of the defence.
For Cancelo, the move represents another chance to continue his career at a club where he has already enjoyed two spells.
For Barcelona, his arrival provides an experienced defender without the need for a major transfer fee.
