Liverpool have decided to keep Cody Gakpo after rejecting an £85 million offer from Manchester City, with the club unable to secure a suitable replacement before the transfer window closes.
Gakpo had reportedly agreed personal terms with City on Saturday, but Liverpool informed his camp that he would remain at Anfield if the club could not bring in another attacking player.
That situation has now been resolved in Liverpool's favour, with Gakpo accepting the decision and preparing to continue with the Reds.
Liverpool Choose Squad Stability
The decision was driven largely by Liverpool's inability to find a replacement for Gakpo.
The club had been monitoring the situation surrounding Ismaïla Sarr, with his availability potentially influencing whether Liverpool would allow the Dutch forward to leave.
With no replacement secured, Liverpool ultimately decided that losing Gakpo this late in the window would create an unnecessary gap in their squad.
That made the £85 million offer from City insufficient to change their position.
Gakpo Had Been Open to Manchester City

Manchester City's pursuit of Gakpo has now ended, despite their willingness to pay a substantial fee.
The Premier League champions are instead turning their attention towards other targets, with Iliman Ndiaye and Enzo Fernández now among the players being pursued.
For Liverpool, meanwhile, retaining Gakpo provides continuity in attack at a crucial stage of the season.
The club can now avoid entering the market for a replacement under pressure simply because one of their established forwards has departed.

On the surface, turning down £85 million may appear surprising.
