Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick has expressed strong confidence in Marcus Rashford, insisting the forward still has plenty to offer the club as he begins a fresh chapter at Old Trafford.
Rashford has returned to Manchester United after spending last season on loan at Barcelona, where he enjoyed a productive campaign.
Carrick believes the England international can rediscover his best form and make an important contribution to United.
“There are ups and downs in football, but now we’re in a positive place as a group, and Marcus can offer us so much,” Carrick told The Athletic.
“He has done, and he can do again, so in that respect, it’s quite exciting!”
Carrick Gives Rashford Fresh Opportunity
Rashford's return represents a significant change from the difficult period that eventually led to his departure from Old Trafford on loan.
The 28-year-old spent the second half of the 2024/25 season at Aston Villa before moving to Barcelona for the 2025/26 campaign.
He returned to United this summer after Barcelona opted against making his move permanent.
Under Carrick, however, Rashford appears to have a fresh opportunity to rebuild his Manchester United career.
Carrick has already welcomed the forward back into the squad, while Rashford has resumed training with his United teammates ahead of the new Premier League season.
Manchester United Hoping for Rashford Revival
Rashford has previously shown that he can be a major attacking threat for United, particularly when operating with confidence and freedom in the final third.
Carrick's comments suggest that the club's new head coach is prepared to allow him to reproduce that level of performance.
Rather than focusing on Rashford's difficult spell, Carrick is looking at what the forward can contribute going forward.
“He has done, and he can do again,” Carrick said, underlining his belief that Rashford can return to the level he previously reached at Manchester United.
The situation could make Rashford one of the most intriguing players to watch as United begin the 2026/27 campaign.
For now, Carrick's message is clear... Rashford remains part of his plans, and the United boss believes there is plenty of football still to come from the forward.
