Newcastle Reach Agreement to Sign Nico González From Manchester City

Newcastle United have reached a verbal agreement with Manchester City for the transfer of Spanish midfielder Nico González, with the deal now moving into the documentation stage.

The agreement is worth £47 million upfront plus £3 million in potential add-ons, taking the total package to £50 million.

González has also given the green light to the move and is ready to join Newcastle's project.

The latest development is that Newcastle and Manchester City have started exchanging the transfer documents, bringing the deal closer to completion.

González Set for Key Role at Newcastle

González is expected to become an important player for Newcastle under manager Matthias Jaissle.

The 24 year old midfielder joined Manchester City from Porto in January 2025 but struggled to establish himself as a regular starter.

His limited role has opened the door for a move elsewhere, with Newcastle now offering him the opportunity to become a central figure in their midfield.

Newcastle have been looking to strengthen their midfield following significant departures this summer, making González's arrival an important part of their squad rebuild.

The midfielder's versatility and experience in the Premier League should give Jaissle another established option in the middle of the pitch.

Manchester City Move Closer to Another Major Midfield Change

For Manchester City, González's departure would represent another significant change to their midfield options.

City are continuing to reshape their squad, with the sale potentially helping fund further recruitment before the transfer window closes.

The club is also working on the arrival of young Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi.

González's move to Newcastle is therefore significant for both clubs.

For Newcastle, it provides Jaissle with an experienced midfielder capable of playing a major role.

For City, it creates additional room within the squad and potentially frees up funds for further business.

The verbal agreement is now in place, and with the two clubs exchanging documents, Nico González is getting closer to becoming a Newcastle United player.
