Mathys Tel Seals Tottenham’s First Stamford Bridge League Win Since 2018

Tottenham Hotspur secured a memorable 2–0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, October 24, ending their wait for a Premier League win at the ground since April 2018.

Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders’ secondhalf own goal gave Spurs the lead before Mathys Tel scored late to seal the London derby.

Chelsea captain Cole Palmer was also sent off as the hosts struggled to recover.

Tottenham Push for the Breakthrough

Tottenham created opportunities in the first half but could not find the opening goal. Chelsea also threatened, with Antonín Kinský making important saves to keep the visitors from taking control of the scoreline.

Spurs continued to press after the break, and their persistence finally paid off in the 77th minute.

Mateus Fernandes delivered a corner into the penalty area, where Penders attempted to punch the ball clear but instead sent it into his own net.

The goal gave Tottenham the advantage they had been searching for and left Chelsea with little time to find a response.

Cole Palmer Sent Off as Chelsea’s Problems Grow

Chelsea’s hopes of getting back into the match suffered another blow when Palmer received a second yellow card in the 80th minute for a foul on former Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.

The dismissal left the hosts with ten men and made their attempt to salvage a result even harder.

Palmer’s red card was also Chelsea’s 100th in Premier League history, excluding subsequently rescinded dismissals.

Mathys Tel Seals the Victory

Tottenham took full advantage of their numerical advantage in the 87th minute.

Tel drove forward on an impressive individual run before finishing with a low shot from distance to beat Penders and make it 2–0.

The goal put the result beyond Chelsea and completed a significant away victory for Roberto De Zerbi’s side.

Spurs End Their Stamford Bridge Wait

The result gave Tottenham their first Premier League victory at Stamford Bridge since April 2018.

It was also their second consecutive league win under De Zerbi, offering encouragement as the team looks to build momentum.

For Chelsea, the defeat marked a disappointing afternoon for Xabi Alonso’s side, whose hopes of taking something from the derby were undone by Penders’ costly mistake and Palmer’s dismissal.

Tottenham will take confidence from ending their long wait for a league victory at one of their fiercest rivals’ home grounds.
