Hansı Flick has refused to campaign for any Barcelona player to win the Ballon d’Or, insisting that individual awards are not his priority and that the team's success should come first.
The Barcelona manager also addressed the club's transfer plans, confirming that he is very happy with his current squad but remains open to further improvements if sporting director Deco finds the right opportunity.
Flick: “It’s Not My Job to Campaign”
Flick was asked about the Ballon d’Or and the strong candidates within his Barcelona squad.
The German coach acknowledged that Barça have several players capable of competing for individual honours but made it clear that he does not intend to campaign for any particular player.
“It's not my job to campaign for the Ballon d’Or.”
Flick also admitted that he is not particularly enthusiastic about individual awards.
“I'm not a friend of these awards.”
For the Barcelona manager, collective success remains more important.
He believes players have a greater chance of winning individual prizes when their team performs well and competes for major trophies.
“When the team is successful, the chances of winning these prizes are higher.”
Barcelona have several players who could attract Ballon d’Or consideration, with the club enjoying a strong start to the new season under Flick.
Flick Says Choosing a Spanish Candidate Is Difficult
The manager was also asked about the quality of players in Spain.
Flick acknowledged that there are several outstanding candidates but suggested that selecting one player is far from straightforward.
“In Spain there are very good players, but it is not easy to choose one.”
Rather than publicly backing one of his own players, Flick appears focused on ensuring Barcelona continue performing at the highest level.
That approach is consistent with his wider philosophy... individual recognition should follow team success rather than become the team's primary objective.
Flick Happy With Barcelona Squad
Flick also provided an update on Barcelona's transfer plans as the window approaches its final stages.
The German said he is very happy with the group currently available to him, while making it clear that Deco remains responsible for assessing whether another addition could improve the squad.
“Of course I'm happy with my team, very happy with the group I have.”
Barcelona have already made several significant additions this summer, including Rodri, João Cancelo, Anthony Gordon and Dominik Livaković.
Deco Has Flick's Full Trust
Flick stressed that he is not putting pressure on the club to make another signing.
Instead, Deco will continue monitoring the market and determine whether a suitable opportunity becomes available.
“But we're under no pressure. It's just about the possibility of improving the team, and Deco has done a fantastic job so far.”
Barcelona have continued exploring attacking options, particularly after their pursuit of Julián Álvarez became complicated by Atlético Madrid's refusal to negotiate with Barça.
Current reports indicate that the club is considering whether another striker could improve Flick's squad before the window closes.
For Flick, however, there is no panic.
The Barcelona boss is satisfied with the quality available to him and believes the most important thing is what he sees every day on the training pitch.
“For me, it's also good to see the quality we have in training.”
Barcelona Focused on Team Success
Flick's message is therefore straightforward.
He is not interested in campaigning for Ballon d'Or votes, nor is he demanding another signing simply for the sake of adding another player.
His priority is building a competitive Barcelona team capable of challenging for major trophies.
If Deco finds an opportunity that genuinely improves the squad, Barcelona will consider it.
If not, Flick is comfortable continuing with the players already at his disposal.
For Flick, team success comes first.
The individual awards and transfer decisions can follow.
