João Cancelo is officially a Barcelona player once again.
The Catalan club have completed the permanent return of the Portugal international, with Cancelo signing a three year contract after leaving Al Hilal.
The agreement will keep him at Barcelona until 2029.
The confirmation marks the end of a transfer that Cancelo had been pushing for throughout the summer.
He had already made it clear that returning to Barça was his priority, eventually reaching an agreement to terminate his Al Hilal contract before completing the move as a free agent.
A Third Spell at Barcelona
This will be Cancelo's third stint with Barcelona.
The 32 year old previously spent two separate loan spells at the club and developed a strong relationship with the supporters during his time in Catalonia.
His latest return is different, however this time, Cancelo is joining permanently rather than arriving on loan.
The move also follows his decision to sacrifice part of his salary to make the Barcelona return possible.
Cancelo previously explained that he had told sporting director Deco that it was either Barcelona or spending a season without playing at Al Hilal.
Cancelo Reunites With Hansi Flick
Cancelo will now continue working under Hansi Flick after previously playing under the German coach during his second spell at Barça.
His versatility gives Flick another experienced option in defence, while his familiarity with the club means he should not need much time to settle back into the squad.
Barcelona's decision to bring him back also provides continuity on the full-back position after his previous successful spell.
For Cancelo, meanwhile, the move finally delivers what he wanted throughout the summer... a permanent return to Barcelona.
The Portugal defender can now focus on the new season knowing his future has been settled.
